Columbia River opened the fourth quarter on a 15-1 scoring run to take the lead for good in a 2A Greater St. Helens League win at home.

The game was tied at 35-all after three quarters after Washougal (6-8, 2-3) used a mini 7-0 run to tie it up entering the final eight minutes. Before that, neither team had larger than a 6-point lead.

“We just couldn’t shake them,” Columbia River coach David Long said. “They have some nice athletes. Heck, they were tough. The final score isn’t an indication of how tight this game was.”

Caden Dezort led all scorers with 17 points, including nine in the fourth quarter. He hit five 3-pointers, including three in the fourth quarter.

Jacob Hjort had six of his 13 points in the fourth quarter on back-to-back 3-pointers as part of the 15-1 run that made River’s lead 50-36. Evan Dirksen added 10 for River (12-2, 6-0).

Ben Gutkind’s eight points led the Panthers, who had 10 players score.
