ORONDO — Deputies have arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of first-degree assault in the June 23 stabbing of a man who tried to break up a fight at a workers’ cabin.

Ismael Gonzalez-Diaz of Orondo was later arrested without incident by Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies in an orchard about a half mile from the cabin in the 30 block of Nollmeyer Road, off of Bray’s Landing Road.

Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal reported the incident and arrest in a Saturday news release. The delay between the arrest and the news release provided time for investigators to confirm witness statements, Gjesdal said.

Deputies were dispatched shortly after 11 p.m. June 23 to the Lake Chelan Hospital to investigate a stabbing, according to the news release. The victim, a 20-year-old Orondo man, reported he had been stabbed at about 8 p.m. while trying to intervene in a fight between several other men.

Gjesdal on Saturday said the injuries were not life threatening, but he did not know if the victim had been released from the hospital.

According to the report, the deputies recovered the knife used in the attack.

Gonzalez-Diaz was booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center, in Wenatchee, before being transferred to the Okanogan County Jail.
