A woman who said she was strapped for cash is accused of trying to sell marijuana to a uniformed Battle Ground police officer.

Officer Brian Archer said he was sitting in his marked patrol vehicle about 1:40 a.m. Sunday in the Walmart parking lot, 1201 S.W. 13th Ave., when a woman approached his driver’s side window, according to court records.

Archer rolled down the window to ask if she needed help. Instead the woman, identified as Alyssa Ayers, 38, asked him, “Do you want to buy some pot?”

The officer asked Ayers to repeat herself, and she said, “I am homeless and need to make some money. Do you want to buy some marijuana?” court records state.

Archer left his patrol vehicle and asked Ayers where the marijuana was, and she pulled out what appeared to be the drug from her left front pocket, court records said. Archer then placed Ayers under arrest.

Court records list a Battle Ground address for Ayers, but it’s unclear if she is living there.

On Monday, Ayers appeared in Clark County Superior Court on suspicion of possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver.

Although it is legal for individuals to possess quantities of marijuana in Washington, it is not legal to sell it.

Judge John Fairgrieve set her bail at $5,000 and set her next court appearance for this morning. Her court-appointed attorney requested a competency hearing, court records show.
