A man accused of helping his father, a suspect in the death of a Camas woman, flee the area was arraigned Thursday in Clark County Superior Court.

Andrew Javier Juarez-Hunt, 19, pleaded not guilty to first-degree rendering criminal assistance. He appeared in court out of custody, as he made bail and was released two days after his arrest July 3, court records show.

Juarez-Hunt hired defense attorney Erin Bradley McAleer after Judge Robert Lewis found that Juarez-Hunt was ineligible for court-appointed counsel.

His trial is set for Oct. 8.

Juarez-Hunt is the son of Guillermo Juarez, 38, the primary suspect in the death of 35-year-old Luz Guitron. Camas police reported that Juarez and Guitron had been dating for several years and have a child together.

Juarez-Hunt’s 11-year-old brother arrived home in the 2100 block of Northeast Everett Street about 1:30 p.m. March 18 and found Guitron dead from multiple stab wounds.

On the day of the killing, Juarez-Hunt told police that he and Juarez had been working together, but his father left their work site only to come back and relay that “something bad happened,” and they had to leave, according to a probable cause affidavit.

He initially said he drove with Juarez to Hood River, Ore., where his father got into another vehicle and left. Juarez-Hunt later admitted that they’d actually gone to Woodburn, Ore., and bought new clothes for Juarez, court records say.

Juarez’s whereabouts are currently unknown.
