Washougal — In honor of National Library Week, Washougal High School’s advanced baking class added a literary dash to their cake-decorating project by baking book-themed cakes. Rose Elsensohn, Jennifer Whitmeyer, Hannah Moen and Rebecca McDonald baked an “Alice in Wonderland” cake, which students at the school voted as their favorite. “We chose ‘Alice in Wonderland’ because it was so colorful,” Elsensohn said in a release. “And there were so many different characters to create around the story.” The most difficult part of their cake, they said, was building a castle tower. They originally tried to roll fondant for the tower, but ended up using Rice Krispies Treats instead. Other entries were inspired by “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” “Harry Potter” and “Peter Pan.”
