Third suspect in Clark County attempted murder appears in court

Investigators say no other persons of interest outstanding in case

Sion E. Wilson, 19, appeared in Clark County Superior Court on Wednesday as the third suspect in a violent attempted murder and residential robbery near Ridgefield on Saturday, but lawyers and deputies haven’t detailed his actions or presented physical evidence, other than to allege he was involved in planning the crimes.

Judge Scott Collier set Wilson’s bail at $1 million. Co-defendants Miccah J. McDowell, 21, and Hayden A. Brewer, 20, had identical bail amounts set earlier this week.

All three suspects face similar charges. Wilson was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery, arson and kidnapping, all in the first-degree.

McDowell is the step-grandson of the victim, Robert “Bob” Davis, according to probable cause affidavits.

Clark County deputies have reported two men stabbed Davis at his home at 6704 N.W. 192nd St.

Firefighters and deputies were dispatched at about 4 p.m. Saturday to a report of a vehicle on fire in the driveway of Davis’ house. Then, the responders found small fires inside the home and gasoline poured through its interior. They found Davis severely injured — with about 15 stab wounds and numerous defensive cuts — in the master bedroom shower, according to the affidavit.

McDowell was taken into custody at a Ridgefield gas station shortly after the Saturday afternoon robbery and stabbing. Brewer was taken into custody Monday; he allegedly was wearing a Rolex watch and gold chain belonging to Davis at the time.

The allegations in three probable cause affidavits do not indicate what part McDowell or Wilson may have played in the crimes.

In an interview with investigators, McDowell “admitted to planning the robbery of his grandparents with three other people including Hayden Brewer,” one version of the affidavits reads. In the newest affidavit, Wilson’s name was added after Brewer’s.

The plan, McDowell told detectives, was to scope out the house, and then he’d leave for work while the three accomplices robbed the home of jewelry, cash and guns. Davis told investigators he watched McDowell walk away as two men struck him with guns. He said two men led him to the shower and stabbed him multiple times.

When asked about Wilson’s alleged role and if authorities were looking for anyone else involved, Senior Deputy Prosecutor James Smith said he could only say the incident remained under investigation and directed questions to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said in a Tuesday press release that they believe all suspects have been arrested. “There are no persons of interest outstanding,” the release says.

Nearly a dozen family and friends showed up for Wilson’s hearing. Wilson’s mother, Samantha West, said outside the courtroom that deputies searched two addresses tied to her son and found nothing. West said she is concerned about the lack of physical evidence against her son.

“They’re painting this picture of him in court but not releasing any information,” West said.

Prosecutor Smith noted during the hearing that Wilson has a criminal record that includes convictions for harassment, second-degree robbery and malicious mischief.

Wilson’s arraignment was set for June 20.
