Showtime unbeaten at Georgia national baseball tournament

The Showtime College Prep baseball team of Vancouver improved to 3-0-1 in pool play at the 17th annual 18U WWBA National Championship in Cartersville, Ga., outside of Atlanta.

On Saturday, Showtime defeated East Cobb Colt 45s of Marietta, Ga., 2-1, and 643 DP Cougars Sterling, also of Marietta, 5-4.

Drew Steelhammer and Connor Coerper were both 2 for 3 against East Cobb. Josiah Nickel, of Prairie High School, pitched five innings with eight strikeouts and two walks.

Steelhammer was 2 for 3 with four RBI against the Cougars.

On Sunday, Showtime beat Ozone Warriors of Gainesville, Ga., 7-0, and then tied Clarksville (Tenn.) Orioles 7-7.

Skyview High’s Liam Kerr had two RBI in the win over the Warriors. Ridgefield’s Spencer Andersen was 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI against Clarksville.

Showtime has three pool play games remaining in the 56-team tournament. There are seven pools of eight with each pool winner advancing to single-elimination bracket play on Thursday.
