Fire crews knocked down a large blaze in a detached garage Wednesday morning at a home in the Proebstel area east of Vancouver.

The fire was reported at 5:17 a.m. at 22601 N.E. 68th St.

Crews from the Vancouver Fire Department were on scene for about an hour and received assistance from East County Fire & Rescue and Clark County Fire District 3, according to Vancouver Fire spokesman Kevin Stromberg.

When firefighters arrived, they found a one-story detached garage fully engulfed in flames. A resident at the home said no one was inside the garage, Stromberg said.

Crews then turned their attention to preventing the fire from spreading to the nearby house, Stromberg said, which is about 80 to 100 feet away from the garage.

Photos from the scene show fire had destroyed a pickup in the garage. Stromberg said the garage and all of its contents are a total loss. The house was not damaged.

Four engines, one truck and two water tenders responded to the scene, because there are no fire hydrants in the area, Stromberg said.

The Clark County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
