1. Everything is rosy
The smell of roses is in the air. It might be spring, or maybe it’s just the Rose Show that takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. June 23 at First Evangelical Church, 4120 N.E. St. Johns Road, Vancouver. The largest rose show in the state and the second largest in the country is free, exhibiting roses grown in the Northwest, including hybrid teas, floribundas, grandifloras, old garden roses, miniatures and mini-floras. There will be a mixture of large roses and miniatures. Highlights include guided tours of the rose varieties from 1 to 3 p.m., a rose care workshop at 2 p.m., with trophies and Queen of Show awarded at 3 p.m. 360-695-0456 or FortVancouverRoseSociety.org
2. Sold!
Most garage sales take place at one home, but the First Place Neighborhood Annual Garage Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 22 and 23 has a different catch. Instead of driving all around town in search of something like the perfect, cheap lamp, browse items at different households within walking distance of one another in the First Place Neighborhood in northeast Vancouver between Northeast 18th Street and Northeast 148th Avenue (signs will be posted in the neighborhood). Admission is free.
3. Big-screen scores
Listen to your favorite tunes from the silver screen at the Vancouver Community Concert Band Spring Concert from 2 to 3 p.m. June 23 at Fort Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St., Vancouver; free. The concert features music from movies. The volunteer-filled band will perform selections from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Harry Potter,” “The Sound of Music,” “The Pink Panther,” “Saving Private Ryan,” “Rocky,” “Magnificent Seven,” “Pinball Wizard” and “The Blues Brothers.” 360-574-9436 or Facebook.com/VCCBand
4. A packed concert
You can’t resurrect Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin or Sammy Davis Jr. to perform again. But you can scoot down to Old Liberty Theater for Tony Starlight’s Rat Pack Tribute, which showcases the old-school entertainers, and the All-Star Swinging Septet, doing their best to imitate the iconic group. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. June 23 at the Theater, 115 N. Main Ave., Ridgefield; $20. 360-887-7260 or OldLibertyTheater.com
