Washington Timbers U16 girls soccer team in regional final

The Washington Timbers 02 Red 1 girls soccer team based in Vancouver advanced to the championship match of the 2018 U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championship tournament in Honolulu.

The Timbers, a U16 team, beat Pacific Northwest 02 Maroon of Tukwila 2-1 in the semifinal on Saturday.

Aanya Friedeman scored in the 14th minute, and Olivia Fothergill scored in the 51st minute for the Timbers, which will play a team from Jordan, Utah, on Sunday in the championship match for the right to advance to nationals in Frisco, Texas, next month.

The Vancouver squad won its quarterfinal on Friday 2-1 over La Roca-FD 02 of Layton, Utah. Alexis Sadler and Fothergill had the goals for the Timbers.
