Central Vancouver — Lyla Hopper-Lopez, 4, was named a Children’s Cancer Association 2018 CCA Hero, which is a group of 11 local children and teens recognized for their exceptional courage, wisdom and grace in the face of serious medical challenges.

Lyla was diagnosed with a Wilms Tumor, which is a rare form of kidney cancer primarily affecting children. Each year, CCA Heroes are selected by medical teams at Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children and association staff from the approximately 7,500 local children and teens served annually by the organization’s programs.

The heroes were honored on May 29 at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry during a private recognition event, which featured a dove release, and was hosted by Drew Carney of KGW-TV and Regina Ellis, founder and chief joy officer at the association.
