Ridgefield’s Trey Knight has been selected as the 2018 Gatorade boys track and field athlete of the year for the state of Washington

The honor recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character.

As a sophomore, Knight won the 2A state title in the shot put and discus, helping Ridgefield to a runner-up finish as a team.  His best throw in the shot put of 63 feet, five inches ranked 17th in the nation, and his top discus mark of 187-6 ranked 34th.

Off the track, Knight has volunteered at Daybreak Youth Services, serving Christmas breakfast to residents, and he also donated time as a youth track coach. He maintained a 3.77 GPA.

Knight became the first Clark County athlete to win the honor for boys track and field since the program began in 1986. Camas’ Alexa Efraimson won the honor for girls in 2013 and 2014.
