Weather Eye: March comes in on the lion side of weather

Welcome to the first day of the metrological spring! Ah, March has a nice ring to it doesn’t it? Just the sound of “March” means winter is over and springtime is heading our way.

Of course, the weather doesn’t always coincide with the calendar. It will be cool and showery today with colder air dropping in this evening and snow levels dropping to 500 feet or so. Maybe a mix at valley floors or perhaps wet snow that won’t stick on roadways. This would be from tonight through Saturday night as the coldest air arrives. But as always, don’t be surprised to see snowflakes pelting your windshield.

Certainly, our folks in the foothills will see a dusting or more of snow. Might be slick streets here in the city Friday morning if skies clear and temperatures drop. Things by Sunday begin to dry out and temperatures return to the 50s next week where they should be, finally.

OK as promised, let’s review some rainfall from your friends and neighbors for January: Claudia Chiasson, Carson, 16.24 inches; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 7.20 inches; Rob Starr, Cougar, 23.87 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lake Shore, 6.06 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 6.90 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 7.14 inches; Bob Mode, Minnehaha, 5.54 inches; Judy Darke, Felida, 5.84 inches; Dave Campbell, one mile west of Heisson, 6.16 inches; Irv St. Germain, Prune Hill, 6.11 inches; Murphy Dennis on Rawson Road near Clark County Rifles, 13.97 inches. Our friend Roland Derksen from Vancouver, B.C., had his third-wettest January in 44 years with a drenching 12.35 inches. The official rainfall for our Vancouver was 5.59 inches, about as close to “normal” as you can get, .09 inch above average.

With the showers, breezy and cool conditions I will classify March coming in on the lion side of things. I will be waiting for the end of the month as it goes out with sunny skies and shirtsleeve weather, following the lamb. Take care and we will chat on Sunday. Think sunshine.
