Letter: Property taxes are outrageous

Almost weekly there is an article in the paper about the skyrocketing rents in Vancouver and that there are no rentals for a great number of people who cannot afford the apartments. This problem will soon get much worse.

I just got my property tax bill. Last year my property tax was $1,024.94, and this year my tax bill is $1,700.26.

If this was a unit I rented out, I would immediately raise the rent to cover increased expenses and so would most property owners, as they are not in the charity business.

Let us not forget the middle class homeowners that are stuck with these outrageous taxes. They will soon not be able to afford the taxes and then the city will have more homeless people.
