Prep roundup: Grey tosses no-hitter in Woodland softball debut

Olivia Grey made quite the varsity debut for the Woodland softball team.

Grey tossed a complete-game no-hitter, striking out 13 batters in the Beavers’ 4-0 non-league win over Prairie on Monday in Woodland.

Grey, a transfer from Kalama, threw 19 first-pitch strikes to the 24 batters she faced over seven innings.

Second-year coach Tom Christiansen said Grey’s precense in the circle changes the whole dynamnic for Woodland, a team that went 6-15 last season.

“Everyone is a lot more relaxed and the defense isn’t overworked,” he said. “The girls have a lot more confidence we can win any game.”

Woodland pounded out six hits and led 3-0 early. Carleigh Risley went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Stars of the day

• Carter Monda, Evergreen baseball, went 2 for 3 and scored three runs in the Plainsmen’s shutout of Mark Morris.

• Lillian Franke, Columbia River softball, went 2 for 3 including a 2-run home run, five RBI and scored a pair of runs in River’s 12-6 win over Union.

• Jack Ossenkop, La Center baseball, went 3 for 6 with four RBI and the game-winning two-run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Wildcats came back from a 13-8 deficit with the sixth-run eighth inning.

• Joel Jenisch, Hudson’s Bay baseball, was 3 for 4 with a double and four RBI in the extra-inning loss at La Center.

• Julian Bojorquez, Heritage boys soccer, scored two of the Timberwolves’ three goals in a 3-3 tie with R.A. Long.

• Jonathan Miner, Washougal baseball, went a combined 4-for-6 with four runs and six RBI in a doubleheader sweep of Stevenson, 13-3 and 8-0.

• Noah Guyette, Skyview baseball, went 3 for 3 from the No. 9 position in the lineup with a double, four RBI and two runs scored in the Storm’s 11-3 win over Mountain View.
