A Vancouver man accused of attacking another man with a knife made a first appearance Monday in Clark County Superior Court.

Owen Beckey, 30, appeared on suspicion of second-degree assault in connection with the Thursday night incident.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies were called about 11:15 p.m. for an assault with a weapon in the 5700 block of Northeast 102nd Avenue. The victim, Ryan Duhigg, said a man, whom he did not know, stabbed him in the left hand, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Duhigg said he had confronted a man, later identified as Beckey, for banging on his neighbor’s window. He yelled, “Dude, you have to stop that now!” Duhigg pushed Beckey as he approached him, but Beckey pulled out a kitchen knife from his waistband and attempted to stab at him, the affidavit states.

A witness said it appeared Beckey tried to stab Duhigg between the shoulder and neck, but the knife bounced off Duhigg’s shoulder, slid down his arm and cut his left hand, according to court documents.

During an interview with the Clark County Corrections release unit, Beckey said he had been drinking alcohol before the confrontation, court records show.

Judge Bernard Veljacic set Beckey’s bail at $50,000. He will be arraigned Friday.
