A three-vehicle crash at the state Highway 500 onramp to southbound Interstate 205 on Friday sent a 3-year-old girl to the hospital. She was the only person injured in the pileup, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The crash happened just before noon, according to a WSP report.
Valerie Quenelle, 35, who was driving a 2008 Dodge Caravan on the freeway ramp, failed to slow down for traffic, troopers said.
Quenelle’s van rear-ended a 2014 Toyota Camry, which was pushed into the bumper of a 2007 Dodge Caravan, according to the crash report.
The van that reportedly started the chain-reaction crash and the Camry were totaled and towed from the scene.
All three drivers walked away from the crash uninjured. However, a 3-year-old girl riding as a passenger in Quenelle’s van suffered unspecified injuries and had to be taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.
The girl was treated and released from the hospital, according to a PeaceHealth spokesman.
Troopers said Quenelle’s inattention and speed were the cause of the crash. The report says drugs and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors. Quenelle was cited for speeding, the WSP reported.
At the same time as the crash, Vancouver police were responding to a domestic dispute in the 4700 block of Northeast 109th Avenue.
Officers were on scene when three people started fighting, said Vancouver police Sgt. Patrick Kennedy. As the fight started to get out of hand, the officers took cover and called for backup, Kennedy said.
The volume of scanner traffic when the officers called for help caused a bit of confusion, Kennedy said. Ultimately, neither the people involved in the fight nor any of the officers were injured. The call for backup and medics was canceled.
One of the people involved in the fight was arrested for domestic violence assault, according to the sergeant.
