Letter: Explore information about abortion

Robert Sanford’s letter, “Forces of repression, suppression” (March 16, Our Readers’ Views) claimed that legalized abortion resulted from “vast social movements.” In fact, “abortion anytime before birth” was created by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1973, which overturned the laws of all 50 states. The court thus usurped “We the People’s” power to change the Constitution when two-thirds of both Houses of Congress propose an amendment and three-fourths of the states ratify it.

Speaking of suppression, our state of Washington has no laws requiring the abortion industry to allow the mother the opportunity of hearing the heartbeat or seeing the ultrasound image of her offspring before the abortion. No laws requiring providing “local pregnancy resources” information. Thus, many women abort what they believe is just a “clump of cells” and do so because they don’t know of any other options.

Speaking of repression, over 50 percent of women having an abortion felt pressured into the procedure by the baby’s father or others (www.theunchoice.com).
