RIDGEFIELD — The Washington Department of Ecology fined Cascade Bridge $2,500 for violating its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit, according to a news release.

Ecology issued the fine March 29 after what the agency said were repeated permit violations after three inspections of a project site in Ridgefield. The NPDES permit addresses water pollution by regulating sources that allow pollutants to enter waterways.

In the first quarter of this year, Ecology issued just under $545,000 in penalties of $1,000 or more.

The funds the agency collects are then put into the state’s general fund or dedicated to pollution prevention accounts.
