The Children’s Cultural Parade once again filled the streets with color and music Friday in a celebration of the region’s history and diversity.

The annual tradition brings more than 1,500 Vancouver third- and fourth-graders to the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site for a parade recognizing cultures around the world. The parade is organized by the National Park Service, and the Evergreen and Vancouver school districts.

Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle, Fort Vancouver National Historic Site Superintendent Tracy Fortmann and district officials lead the boisterous celebration from Pearson Air Museum into the reconstructed Fort Vancouver, where they were greeted by National Park Service docents garbed in traditional 1840s dress.

“These students have worked hard for months in their classrooms to study cultures from around the globe while rediscovering their family’s and their community’s cultural heritage,” Fortmann said in a National Parks Service statement.
