Community notebook: Skyview, Columbia River lacrosse advance in playoffs

The Skyview High School and Columbia River boys lacrosse teams opened the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse playoffs with victories Saturday.

Skyview posted a 14-6 win over Rogers of Puyallup at Ridgefield High School.

Carson Kiichle scored a team-high six goals and had three assists. Connor Kiichle scored four goals to go with four assists, and Vinh Dawkins scored four goals.

Khoi Dawkins picked up seven ground balls, Kaleb Jacques had five, and Chris Johnson and Wyatt Stanley had four each.

Jake Miller made 16 saves on 22 shots in goal for Skyview.

Next for Skyview is a matchup against Skyline of Sammamish at 7 p.m. Friday at Ridgefield High School.

Columbia River beat Overlake of Redmond 11-3 in the match played at Seton Catholic.

Jacob Ayers and Benjamin Bisquera each scored four goals for Columbia River. Nick Frichti had a goal and four assists.

Cody Held picked up five ground balls, and Joseph Brennan and Kurt Ellis each had four.

Isaac Aljets made 13 saves on 16 shots in goal.

Columbia River travels to play Bellingham at 1 p.m. Saturday at Whatcom Community College.

Prairie, Battle Ground play for 3rd in state rugby

Area rivals Prairie and Battle Ground high schools will play for third place in the Rugby Oregon State Championships.

Newberg, Ore., beat Battle Ground 27-24 in one semifinal at Delta Park on Saturday, while Reynolds beat Prairie in the other semifinal. Details were not reported.

Prairie and Battle Ground play in the Plate Final at 1:30 p.m. this Saturday at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Ore.

Also, the Portland Pumas eliminated Union in the Bowl semifinals. No details were reported.

Dolezal places first at Haagen Park 3-miler

Eric Dolezal of Vancouver was the fastest among 42 runners who took part in the Leroy Haagen Park 3-mile run on May 9.

Dolezal finished the course in 17 minutes, 5 seconds. Abby Knight was the first women’s finisher in 18:52, placing fifth overall.

This was the second of five Wednesday runs this month being put on by the Clark County Running Club.

Each Wednesday race begins at 6:30 p.m. Upcoming events include:

• Ellen Davis Trail 3 and 4.5-mile Run, Wednesday in Leverick Park.

• Pacific Park Run on May 23.

• David Douglas Park run on May 30.

Hazel Dell, Washougal hosting runs Saturday

HAZEL DELL — The Race to Remember Armed Forces Day run is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday near the Hazel Dell Target store, 8668 N.E. Hazel Dell Ave., in Vancouver.

Day-of-race registration for the 2.22-mile run begins at 8 a.m. Saturday and is $35.

This race has partnered with the annual Hazel Dell Parade of Bands to lead out the parade.

WASHOUGAL — The Run to Remember Washington will take place Saturday in downtown Washougal at Reflection Plaza, 1703 Main Street.

A half-marathon will begin at 8:45 a.m., followed by the start of the 5K and 10K races at 9 a.m.

Entry fees range from $25 to $85 through Friday. Day-of-race registration is $30 to $95.

Rowing championships return to Vancouver Lake

The U.S. Rowing Northwest Youth Championships are Friday through Sunday at Vancouver Lake Regional Park.

On Friday and Saturday, races begin at 8 a.m., take a break around noon, and resume around 1 p.m. Sunday’s races go from 8 a.m. until about 1 p.m. Spectators are welcome.

This event draws hundreds of rowers from 26 Northwest clubs to Vancouver to compete in a variety of events, from Varsity 8+ to novice.

Vancouver Lake Crew is the local entrant in the championships.
