Letter: Herrera Beutler leads on toll issue

I encourage Sens. Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray, D-Wash., to work with Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, to halt Oregon’s plan to toll the Interstate 5 and Interstate 205 bridges. Herrera Beutler’s leadership on this has been impressive and we need all of our federal representatives to join her.

This idea to toll the I-5 and I-205 bridges provides zero benefit to Southwest Washington commuters, considering none of the revenue will go toward building a new bridge. It’s mind-boggling that Oregon’s goal is to target Washington commuters and send our money to Salem. We need to do everything we can to support Herrera Beutler in her efforts. This tolling plan is a nonstarter for Southwest Washingtonians.
