Battle Ground — When his mom asked him what kind of birthday cake he wanted for his seventh birthday, Remington Waldkirch told her he wanted a “thank you” cake to bring to local police officers for all they do in the community.

The Captain Strong Primary School first-grader brought the cake to Clark County Sheriff’s Department.

They repaid his gesture with a surprise visit to the school on April 24.

Members of the sheriff’s department and Battle Ground Police Department brought an armored SWAT vehicle to the school and invited kids aboard to check it out.

Deputies presented Remington with a “kindness citation” and took him for a spin around the parking lot in the vehicle, and brought cupcakes for his class to share.
