1. Keep it moving

Stay active and honor the military a week before Memorial Day weekend at the Run to Remember at 8 a.m. May 20 at Reflection Plaza, 1703 Main St., Washougal; $25 to $85. Nearly 1,000 people will run and walk the Memorial Day Mile, 5K, 10K or half marathon to honor soldiers lost in the line of service and raise funds for NW Battle Buddies, an organization that provides service dogs for veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. 360-574-7292 or whyracingevents.com/event/987

2. Pitch perfect

There are no instrumentalists needed for the Barbershop Benefit Concert from 4 to 6 p.m. May 20 at the Family of Christ Lutheran Church, 3500 N.W. 129th St., Vancouver. The award-winning Northwest Harmony Chorus, one of the region’s best Sweet Adelines choral groups, and the Bridge Town Sound, Portland’s barbershop chorus, will perform a concert featuring songs in traditional barbershop a capella style. All proceeds benefit Friends of the Carpenter, a faith-based day facility that provides safety, structure and purpose for vulnerable people. Tickets are $30. 360-253-7984

3. Goin’ fishing

You can fish year round, but it sure is more pleasant when the sun is out, accompanied by some spring heat. Go fishing, get your catch weighed and get your picture taken with your fish from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 19 at Woodland Moose Kids’ Fishing Derby at Horseshoe Lake Park, Park Road and Lake Shore Drive, Woodland; $3. First-, second-, third- and fourth-place winners each win a bicycle. There are games and prizes for kids, and a concession stand will be on-site. The derby includes a fingerprinting booth. Ages 4 through 14 can participate; kids ages 4 and 5 must be accompanied by an adult. 360-607-5312

4. Schoolhouse rocking

Students from the Metropolitan Performing Arts Academy will showcase “Dear Edwina Jr.,” at 2 and 6 p.m. May 19 and 2 p.m. May 20. The musical is a spunky, singing version of Dear Abby, told through a show-within-a-show format that follows Edwina Spoonapple, an advice-giver, who wows her neighbors with original musical extravaganzas performed in the family garage. Performances take place at Royal Durst Theatre, Vancouver School of Arts & Academics, 3101 Main St., Vancouver; $10 to $16. 360-975-1585 or Metropaa.org

5. The big screen

Movies just have more impact when you watch them at the theater, so imagine how epic it is to watch them at the theater with a symphony playing the score. View the hilarious love triangle in the silent movie “Lady Windermere’s Fan,” with live musical accompaniment by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra chamber ensemble. Enjoy wine, soft drinks and refreshments at the screening from 3 to 5:30 p.m. May 20 at Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main St., Vancouver; $25, $10 for students. 360-816-0352 or KigginsTheatre.net
