Prep roundup: Evergreen soccer falls in state quarterfinals

Evergreen’s season came to an end with a 4-1 loss to Lakeside of Seattle in the 3A boys soccer state quarterfinals in Seattle.

It was the first quarterfinal appearance since 2002 for the Plainsmen, whose season finishes at 12-3-4.

Lakeside (13-4-2) took control early with three goals in the first half.

Levan Zhividze scored Evergreen’s goal in the second half, assisted by Elijah Lavin.

4A bi-district softball

Camas lost 4-2 to Rogers of Puyallup in the quarterfinals of the District 3/4 tournament in Kent.

The loss knocks the Papermakers into consolation bracket. They will face Skyview on Saturday in a loser-out game. The winner will then have two chances to reach the state tournament.

Camas opened bi-district play with a 5-0 win over South Kitsap. Kennedy Ferguson took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but settled for a two-hitter with 13 strikouts and one walk.

Ferguson and Payton Bates both homered against South Kitsap.

Skyview lost its bi-district opener to Kentwood 10-5. The Storm then rebounded to beat Battle Ground 7-4 in a loser-out game.

Battle Ground opened with a 11-0 loss to Puyallup.

2A district track

Ridgefield sophomore Trey Knight set a 2A district meet record in winning the shot put at Tumwater District Stadium.

Knight’s distance of 63 feet, 5 inches, broke his own record of 60-9 set last year.

Knight also won the discus with a throw of 172-6.

Columbia River freshman Lucy Ianello was also a double winner at the district meet. She won the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 29.951 seconds, and the 1,600 in 5:17.672.

Ridgefield’s Bryan Tavera and Nick Jenkins went 1-2 in the triple jump with Tavera winning by three inches at 43-10 1/4.

Also from Ridgefield, Kyle Radosevich won the 3,200 by nine seconds (9:32.97), and Mackenzie Sparks won the javelin (135-0).

Washougal’s Tanner Lees won the pole vault (14-0), and Amanda Pullen won the 3,200 (11:13.46).

Micah Kinnunen of Hockinson won the 100 (10.99) and was second in the 200 (22.14), while Emma Watson was also 1-2 in the 100 (12.84) and 200 (26.52).

The Hockinson boys 400 relay team of Bailey Jones, Makaio, Kinnunen and Tony Richardson won with a time of 43.15, and the girls team of Abigail Willette, Alyssa Chapin, Jordyn Gutridge and Watson won in 50.75.

Girls tennis

Hudson’s Bay senior Avery Honaker booked a return trip to the 3A state tennis tournament by reaching the semifinals of the 3A bi-district tournament at Spanaway. Honaker posted wins of 6-2, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-2 to advance.

The top six in singles and doubles qualify for the 3A state tournament.

In the 4A bi-district tournament at Kent, Skyview’s doubles team of Karly Metz and Anna Lu qualified for 4A state by reaching the bi-district semifinals with a three-set comeback win 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Sam Merrill of Camas, the 4A district singles champion, lost in the quarterfinal round and faces Skyview’s Marissa Hunter in a loser-out quarterfinal. Hunter won a pigtail match to reach the main draw, and after a first-round loss, eliminated Battle Ground’s Andrea Besara 6-1, 6-1.

The top seven placers advance to state in singles and doubles.
