Letter: Stop complaining, start doing

The definition of transparent is: clear, see-through, obvious, self-evident, plain, undisguised.

Battle Ground Public Schools is being both transparent and accountable by forming a committee to involve the community to explore different options to address overcrowding. I believe some people who were at the May 14 board meeting, and quoted in The Columbian (“Seeing red over jam-packed B.G. schools,” May 16), equate agreement and running the show as transparency.

If you weren’t listening, the formed committee will present options it gathers from the community and staff. Want to be on the committee? Ask to be on it. Want your options heard? Then take an active stance in participating.

Just because things aren’t going your way doesn’t equate a lack of transparency on the part of the other.

Why would the district “directly involve teachers and staff in discussions about overcrowding” privately and/or prior to an open meeting forum? The board serves parents as well as teachers. We should all be involved, equally.

The bond failed and who knows when one will pass? Thank goodness the board and district are being accountable by forming a committee that will host forums, meetings, and/or surveys so that we might all contribute options to enable growth over a longer time period.

I look forward to participating, hearing and seeing the great things our community will do for Battle Ground Public Schools.
