PORTLAND — Police are investigating the death of a woman found on a downtown Portland sidewalk.

Police said officers responded to the report of an injured person down on a sidewalk on Southwest Second Avenue between Ash and Ankeny streets shortly after 11 p.m. Monday. They aided the person, a woman who hasn’t been publicly identified, but medical personnel determined she was dead.

Police didn’t immediately release information about the circumstances of her death but said that judging by their initial investigation, they didn’t believe there was any public danger.

Members of the Portland Police Bureau Detective Division’s Homicide Detail were to lead the investigation, the agency said in a news release early Tuesday.

Police urge anyone with information or video surveillance of the area to call 503-823-0479.
