Washougal’s Scouts Troop 549, sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, recently recognized three Eagle Scouts.

They were honored at their local BSA Court of Honor on May 1 in Washougal. The three Eagle Scouts were then presented with an Eagle Award medal and a badge that recognizes the accomplishments of the scout.

The Eagle Scout is the highest achievement in the Boy Scouts of America program, which recently changed its name from Boy Scouts to Scouts BSA, as girls soon start entering the program. The requirements to achieve this rank take years to fulfill. Scouts must earn at least 21 merit badges. The Eagle Scout must demonstrate Scout Spirit, an attitude based upon the Scout Oath and Law, service and leadership. This includes an extensive service project that the scout plans, organizes, leads and manages.

The projects included:

Koy Chaston organized a work crew to attach water drain markers to neighborhood drains in Vancouver.

Korbin McDonald built three wooden benches and placed them on walking trails near Hartwood Park in Washougal.

Gabriel Dinnel designed and, with help of a crew, built a Nature Balance Course at Mount Pleasant School in Washougal.
