Letter: Make changes, prevent shootings

I’m heartsick and angry over the murders of students and teachers in Texas. Murderers are cowards. They seek out defenseless people, using readily available weapons. They go to prison and we support their future while our children and loved ones are dead. No future for them.

We need to stop this insanity at the source: the gun and gun owner.

In this case, the murderer didn’t have to shop for a gun; his father provided it by not securing his deadly weapons. It’s time we criminally prosecute gun owners whose weapons are used in any killing.

Guns have one purpose, that’s to kill.

Contact your representatives and insist that they protect us through legislation, immediately.

In the meantime, contact your child’s school and find out what is being done to protect students and teachers. What safety programs have they put in place? Should we have citizens patrol the schools daily? I believe this is possible. We are in crisis and it is not business as usual. And while we wait for action from our ineffective government, people are being slaughtered daily. Your school may be next, and your child or their teacher may be killed.

Don’t argue your constitutional rights; the Constitution does not give anyone the right to kill others with impunity.
