Weather Eye: Mild weather with continue through Memorial Day weekend

Are you enjoying this fine summerlike weather? I know I am but I’m one that likes it a bit cooler, down into the 70s. And that is what is in the forecast today through the long holiday weekend.

So highs will be in the 70s through Memorial Day except Saturday, when there could be enough cloudiness and a little drizzle to keep it below 70 degrees. Regardless, no big washout for the holiday and all signs of fun are a go.

You know if splashing in the areas lakes and streams, the water is still on the chilly side. Be prepared and be careful. Plenty of cold snowmelt is rushing down the rivers. Freezing levels will be high this weekend to keep the rapid melting underway.

Did you see those towering white clouds Wednesday afternoon? Some of the thundery clouds floated over the county, dimming the sun at times. We chatted about this the other day that scattered thunderstorms would be over the Cascades, with a risk of them drifting westward as they dissipate. As of 5 p.m. Wednesday Vancouver had not received any measurable rainfall.

The complex low over California moves north and east the next three days, bringing in ocean air, hence morning clouds today and Friday. Shower chances increase Friday and early Saturday.

Any rainfall would be light and actually I would be surprised if we had much at all. But we keep a small chance in the forecast. Then higher pressure builds the last two days of the holiday weekend. I see no rain at all next week, so May could go into the record books as the driest on record.
