The next Repair Cafe will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on June 7 at the Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St. in Vancouver.

People can bring bicycles, tools, knives, clothes, small appliances, small electronics and jewelry in need of repair, and volunteers will try to fix them for free.

The goal is to keep things out of landfills, conserve resources and save money. Repair efforts are successful about 80 percent of the time, organizers say.

Attendees are encouraged to bring replacement parts, such as zippers or cords. They must be present during the repair, and those with multiple items must re-enter the line after an item is repaired.

Bring items small enough to be easily carried by one person; do not bring items that are leaking, dangerous, dirty or have a strong odor.

More information, including examples of what not to bring (such as chain saws, lawn mowers and microwaves) is at www.columbiasprings.org/repair. Contact them at repair@columbiasprings.org or call 360-882-0936, ext. 224.
