About a year ago, several readers asked us how some of the streets like Mill Plain and Fourth Plain got their names. That led to reporter Tom Vogt’s story, “The Plains Explained,” our first Clark Asks feature.

Now readers want to know the answer to this reader’s question: “Where do the neighborhoods get their names? Image Neighborhood, I learned and it was interesting! Almost no one in our neighborhood knows.”

That question handily won the most recent Clark Asks voting round, capturing 66 percent of the vote. “What’s with the abandoned white yacht at the old Kaiser shipyards?” came in second with about 22 percent of the vote. “Who are the Women Who Weld, and what is their background?” came in third with about 13 percent of the vote.

We’ll be reporting on the winning question in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled for this latest Clark Asks feature in which you ask questions about the local community and we dig for answers.

This past year, we’ve written nearly two dozen Clark Asks stories, which you can read online at columbian.com/clarkasks. You can also submit your own question there. We regularly pluck questions for voting rounds, but we also occasionally select a story that grabs us and run with it.

Two weeks ago, reporter Andy Matarrese wrote about local law enforcement and immigration issues, answering reader Ed Delph’s question: How much does law enforcement in Clark County cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or is this a “sanctuary” area?
