A vehicle fire sparked a grass fire that burned about an acre of grass along state Highway 14 in east Vancouver, according to the Vancouver Fire Department.

The fire was reported about 6:50 p.m. Wednesday near the state highway’s interchange with Interstate 205. Crews arrived to find a Cadillac Escalade engulfed in flame and fire spreading up the north shoulder of the highway.

A water tender was called in but the fire was brought under control by crews using water from their fire engine’s 500-gallon tank, the fire department said.

The owner of the Escalade told firefighters the vehicle had known mechanical issues, according to the fire department.
