The deadline for monthly business filers of Washington’s excise tax is Jan. 25, the Washington State Department of Revenue is reminding taxpayers. Quarterly and annual filers must file by Feb. 1.

All filers– even if they had no business activity but have an active tax registration account — must file a tax return by their due date, state officials said. Most businesses are required to use the department’s electronic tax filing system, E-file, to submit returns and pay taxes. Annual filers are not required to file online.

Revenue officials advise taxpayers to prepare returns early and, if needed, seek assistance early in the month. The department’s tax specialists are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at 800-647-7706. Assistance is also available by e-mail or through a live chat service, both accessible on the department’s website, dor.wa.gov. Taxpayers may also visit the Department of Revenue office, 8008 N.E. Fourth Plain Blvd., Suite 320.
