General assignment
Contact: 759-8031, erin.middlewood@columbian.com
I have covered government, education, crime and just about everything else in my career as a journalist.
I grew up in Vancouver, delivered The Columbian as a kid and went to Hudson's Bay and then Mountain View High School . My first job after graduating from Western Washington University was at Portland's Institute for Science, Engineering and Public Policy. The institute stages lectures by famous scientists. When I worked there, I got to meet Carl Sagan. He was really smart guy, and nice, too.
Writing for the Life section is fun for me because any topic is fair game. Since moving from the news team to features in 2006, I've written about serious stuff (a young man's struggle with mental illness) and fun stuff (roller derby). If you have any ideas for me, let me know: erin.middlewood@columbian.com
