Students returning to school this fall might notice some changes. Battle Ground has a new superintendent, and there's a new football field in La Center. Some districts are building to meet growing student populations or trying out new programs in technology, epidemiology, aviation and homeland security.
Ridgefield — The Pioneer Grange has been picked as a collection site for used clothes that will be gathered by a company in exchange for money given back to the grange. St. Pauly Textile, based in New York state, maintains hundreds of collection sheds around the country, but this is its first in Washington. The for-profit company gathers donated clothes and sells them in bulk to relief organizations and other groups looking for inexpensive clothing to benefit those in need. The grange will be given money by the company for each pound of clothes that are donated, which will help the building raise funds for its new roof campaign, according to a press release.
Clark County has given the Port of Ridgefield up to three months to resolve a dispute with the Department of Ecology over whether to place Carty Lake in the county's shoreline program, a state-mandated directory of regulated waterways.
Building on the public input received at two series of meetings in June and July, Fort Vancouver Regional Library District officials will hold a third set of pre-design meetings in Ridgefield, Washougal and Woodland in September.
