Searchers suspended the hunt for three tribal fishermen who went missing Wednesday on the Columbia River east of Stevenson.

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew scoured more than 72 miles along the river, and Skamania County Sheriff’s divers also searched, but couldn’t find any trace of the men. The search was called off by early afternoon Thursday.

The men’s boat was found capsized near the mouth of the Wind River several hours after they were expected to return. They had departed from the Stevenson area Tuesday evening.

Poor weather on the river caused choppy conditions, and water temperatures were 50 degrees, according to a U.S. Coast Guard bulletin.
