Saturday, May 17, 2008 By DEAN BAKER, Columbian Staff WriterA Vancouver man was shot early Saturday after two men tried to force their way into his apartment, police said.
The 41-year-old victim, who was shot once in the back near his left shoulder, was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated and released. Police did not release his name.
According to a Vancouver Police Department bulletin, the man was awakened by knocks on the door of his apartment at 10904 N.E. 48th St. shortly after midnight.
When he answered the door, two men wearing masks tried to force their way inside.
The victim tried to keep the men out but was overpowered, police said. He then tried to flee to a neighboring apartment, leading one of the suspects to shoot at him twice, striking him once, police said.
The two men ran from the area.
Police said the suspects wore dark clothes and masks. One was about 6 feet tall with a stocky build.
