Pair of new principals hired by Camas schools
Thursday, May 22, 2008 By HOWARD BUCK, Columbian staff writerThe Camas district didn’t have to look far to find its next high school principal.
Steve Marshall, Mountain View High School associate principal, will take over the Camas High School job in July, the district has announced.
Marshall, 37, and a Camas resident, is finishing his sixth year in his current role at Mountain View High School. He came to the Evergreen district school in 1999 as a social studies teacher.
Marshall was among four job candidates screened by an ad-hoc committee and by CHS faculty and staff members, then was one of two finalists.
A 1988 Fort Vancouver High School graduate, Marshall earned a bachelor’s degree from Portland State University, then earned a master’s degree in education from Washington State University Vancouver.
He will replace third-year Principal Richard Zimmerman, who is leaving the district in June.
Prune Hill change
The district also announced that Patricia Edwards, Prune Hill Elementary’s first and only principal, will step aside next year. She’ll make way for Julie Swan, a teacher at James D. Zellerbach Elementary School and recent administrative intern.
Edwards worked 21 years at Lacamas, Helen Baller and Prune Hill elementary schools. She will become a substitute administrator for the district.
That includes help at James D. Zellerbach Elementary School and Helen Baller Elementary School, where principals are planning for construction of new school buildings. Edwards was planning principal for Prune Hill Elementary School before it opened in 2001. |
