Four Camas teenagers were arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft after a police officer reportedly found them stealing from a garage early Tuesday.

Officer Tony Braunstein was on patrol in the Parker Estates neighborhood around 2:50 a.m. when he saw what looked like a burglary in progress. The residents were home at the time of the apparent burglary, said Camas police Sgt. David Chaney.

When the suspects saw Braunstein, two of them jumped into a vehicle and sped off without turning on the headlights, according to the bulletin. Braunstein chased and tried to stop the suspects, Chaney said, but they quickly drove out of sight.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a wooded area off Northwest Pacific Rim Boulevard soon after.

Police eventually arrested all four suspects. Two were slightly injured in the crash.

Antonio M. Manduley and Gabriel J. Erwin, both 18, were booked into Clark County Jail on suspicion of two counts of residential burglary and one count of first-degree theft. A 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were booked into the county’s juvenile detention facility on the same allegations.

The 16-year-old also faces a charge of attempting to elude a police officer.

The juveniles’ names were not released.

The four are suspected of stealing from at least one other home in the same neighborhood Monday night, Chaney said. The full extent isn’t known; the case is under investigation.

Police recovered several thousand dollars’ worth of apparently stolen property, according to the bulletin. Thefts of items valued at $1,500 or more can bring a first-degree theft charge.
