Letter: Local GOP eroded by Madore, Mielke

Anger. Embarrassment. Incredulity. "What were they thinking?" These are the responses of many since County Commissioners David Madore and Tom Mielke appointed state Senator Don Benton as Clark County's director of environmental services.

Letter: Recall effort applauded

My thanks to former Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard for lending his name to support efforts to recall Clark County Commissioners David Madore and Tom Mielke. All one has to do is know what Esther Short Park looked like before and after Pollard served as Vancouver mayor — and to see all the wonderful bike lanes around Vancouver — to know what a great job he did as mayor.

Letter: Columbian guilty of magnification

Wow, I am impressed with the ability of The Columbian to continue its open vendetta against Don Benton by the skillful use of his recent appointment by the Clark County Commission to maintain a major front-page brouhaha.

Letter: Background checks are valuable

Many people think that background checks are a waste of time. But background checks are one of the big reasons people with mental disabilities do not receive automatic weapons.

Letter: Stay vigilant against graffiti

My wife and I were very alarmed to see the gross graffiti "art" on the former home of the ARC of Clark County. This is near the junction of Fourth Plain Boulevard and the I-205 overpass. I just talked to an official at the desk at ARC. She knew of this and reflected the feelings of the group: "It's awful." She realizes the great expense of getting these markings covered.

Letter: Keep your children active

As summer draws near, I am writing to advocate on behalf of children.
