Brenda Smith, with her daughter, Nicole Smith, displays tutus she’s made for Columbia Dance over the years. Brenda Smith is one of two winners in a national tutu-making competition, and Nicole Smith is an apparel design student at Washington State University in Pullman who hopes to become a costume designer. Above right, Nicole Smith designed this tutu, which her mother, Brenda Smith, is constructing.
