Workers at the base of Condit Dam prepared to begin drilling and blasting a tunnel into the dam’s base Monday as a drawdown of Northwestern Lake continued. The 125-foot dam on the White Salmon River will be breached in October. This view from the top of the dam shows a plunge pool, right, where fish will be removed and water diverted to allow crews to operate; the dam’s tailrace, center; and the wood-stave flow line, left, that transports river water a mile downstream to the powerhouse.
