Pickers harvest pails of huckleberries from the Sawtooth Huckleberry Fields in late September. The Gifford Pinchot National Forest requires purchase of permits from commercial berry harvesters, but allows people to harvest up to three gallons of huckleberries annually for personal use at no charge.
