Rachel Messerschmidt, a cat team lead at the Humane Society for Southwest Washington, checks on Orchid, one of the shelter's longest residents. Orchid, who has been at the shelter since Feb. 7, is one of a few cats allowed to roam freely around the building in order to gain better visibility for adoption.
