Ken VanderVoorden, a logger from Curry County, checks out one of the cloned Coastal Redwoods during a small ceremony as Jerry Becker watches Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, in Port Orford, Ore. Two ancient redwoods cloned from some of the largest and oldest redwoods and giant sequoias in California were planted Tuesday on a near vertical hillside in remote southern Oregon. Archangel Ancient Tree Archive will plant 248 additional clones on the four-acre site south of Port Orford as soon as weather permits. The planting is Archangel's first attempt to re-create an old-growth forest from its storehouse of rooted cuttings from "champion" trees, the tallest, oldest and largest samples of each species it can find.
