Christopher Willingham and Lucca on Natural Balance Pet Foods’ 2013 Rose Parade float, “Canines with Courage” in Irwindale, Calif. The float is a floral replica of the Military Working Dog Teams National Monument being constructed in San Antonio, Texas. Lucca, an 8-year-old German Shepherd-malinois mix, was deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. After losing a leg to a roadside bomb, Lucca is now retired and lives with her first handler, Sgt. Willingham.
