Liz Rowan, photographed in March, died Thursday from complications related to her cancer treatment. She was 21. Rowan was diagnosed with bone cancer at age 16, two types of breast cancer at age 19 and two types of leukemia at age 21.

Eight dogs were rescued during a Monday morning house fire at 1105 E. 29th St. in Vancouver. New recruit Jake Britt assists animal control with removing the dogs from a car, where they were placed for safety reasons. It was Britt's first shift as a Vancouver firefighter, after recently completing the firefighter recruit academy.

Drew Clark, a senior at Evergreen High School, was chosen as to represent the Scandinavian community as St. Lucia for 2012-2013. The crowning was held at the annual ScanFair in the Portland Veterans Memorial Coliseum on December 2, 2012.
