A Boeing 787 Dreamliner sits on the tarmac outside the Boeing Co.'s 112,000-square-foot paint hangar at Portland International Airport. Considered a midsize airplane, the 787 operates on 20 percent less fuel than its counterparts, according to company officials. It also will travel at a similar speed.
