Gold Star families, including Gale Johnson and her two children, Isaiah and Rya, had special seats at the Memorial Day ceremony at Vancouver Barracks. Gold Star families are those who lost a loved one in war. Johnson's husband, Cpl. Jeremiah Johnson, died Jan. 5, 2007, in Baghdad, Iraq.
